Overview
Measles cases are rising around the world. Even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available, in 2021, there were an estimated 128,000 measles deaths globally, mostly among unvaccinated or under vaccinated children under the age of 5 years. In 2023, there was a 3 0-fold increase in measles cases in Europe, necessitating 21,000 hospitalizations. Many countries around the world are at risk of outbreaks.
